The Oscar-nominated  actor, who recently starred in Christopher Nolan's box office hit "Inception," will portray serial killer Dr. H.H. Holmes, a man believed to have murdered anywhere between 27 and 200 people, in the film adaptation of Erik Larson's best-selling book, "The Devil in the White City," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The film will be set during the 1893 Chicago World Fair and will focus on the deceivingly charming Holmes, who built an elaborate hotel to lure victims to their deaths. His hotel, dubbed the "Murder Castle," was complete with a gas chamber, dissecting table and crematorium.

According to THR, DiCaprio is set to produce the film, along with his Appian Way partner Jennifer Kiloran and Double Feature's Michael Shamber and Stacey Sher.

"The Devil in the White City"  will be just one of DiCaprio's latest book-to-film projects. The 35-year-old is also reportedly set to portray Jay Gatsby in Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby."
