12 Members of Al Maliki's Delegation Refuse to Return to Iraq After Visit to Belgium

Iraqi sources told the pan-Arab newspaper al Quds al Arabi that 12 members of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki's delegation decided not to return to Iraq during a visit he was making to the European Union headquarters in Brussels. Al Maliki's spokesperson informed the Belgian authorities, said the sources, adding that they include one of al Maliki's consultants, as well as journalists and some employees of the petroleum, commerce and finance ministries. The delegation members all have visas that will allow them to travel freely around Europe. Sources expected they'll ask for asylum. Sources pointed out that this caused an embarrassment to al Maliki, whose flight back to Iraq was delayed by a few hours because of the issue. (read the article>)
