America's Cup sailing returned to New York City for the first time in 96 years, drawing thousands of spectators to the waterfront on the Hudson River for the Louis Vuitton World Series regatta, May 7-8, 2016.
Emirates Team New Zealand went from last place to first in the winner-take-all third and final race winning the New York series on Sunday, May 8, taking the lead in the standings in the run up to sailing's most prestigious event -- the 2017 America's Cup in Bermuda. New Zealand hopes to avenge their soul-crushing loss to Oracle Team USA in the 34th America's Cup on San Francisco Bay in 2013.
The regatta is the first World Series event in the U.S., which includes another in Chicago in June.
