(CBS) Actor Shia LaBeouf was briefly detained and released by officers in Southern California after allegedly getting into a scuffle with a bar patron early Saturday morning, say reports.

The 24-year-old "Transformers" star was at Mad Bull's Tavern in Sherman Oaks, Calif. when he was allegedly taunted by a fellow patron. When the two decided to move their conversation outside, LaBeouf was "sucker punched in the mouth," an eyewitness told US Magazine.

"It was just boys being boys. Things got really out of hand and it didn't have to go down the way it did," Mad Bull's Tavern owner Richard DiSisto told US magazine.

Police arrived on the scene and placed the actor in handcuffs while they assessed the situation. LaBeouf was questioned by officers and released just after 1:00 a.m., reports the magazine.

Police have no records of any arrests.
